School Bus Drivers

School bus drivers are selected, hired and trained following rigorous selection criteria and a thorough criminal history background check.

All PISD school bus drivers are trained through the Texas Department of Public Safety, TEA and PISD School Bus Driver Certification Courses. Each driver has also earned a Class B Commercial Driver License with a P & S endorsement.

Bus drivers are required to pass a pre-employment drug test along with an annual physical and are subject to random drug and alcohol testing.

Every driver has successfully completed the required school bus driver training course as well as periodic safety training.

All PISD Drivers are CPR Certified. 

All PISD Drivers get evaluations and retraining every year.

PISD school bus drivers are professionals and are expected to conduct themselves as such at all times.

They work hard to earn the trust and respect of parents/guardians and students.

Bus Monitors

Bus Monitors are used on our Special Needs Routes to assist the driver in loading, unloading, and with supervision of students during transit. 

PISD Monitors are required to receive training with a Special Needs Trainer and are required to complete Monitor training course as well as periodic safety training.

Bus Monitors work closely with the Special Needs students during the route.
