Weather decisions are never easy. We either get it completely right or completely wrong - there is never anything between. And we know that everyone is watching the weather along with us. We want to make a weather decision as quickly as possible to give everyone time to adjust their personal plans, but we also want to wait as long as possible to have the best information so we can make the "rightest" decision possible.

Updated Friday, May 17

  • Class of 2024 Students and Families:

As we approach the Prosper Independent School District 2024 Graduation ceremonies, we want to underscore the significance of our weather contingency plans, which are designed with your safety in mind.

How will we be made aware of changes to the ceremony?
The district will text and email students and families directly. Information will also be posted on www.prosper-isd.net and on district and campus social media channels.

If there is bad weather before the start of the ceremony
We will delay the start of the ceremony in 30-minute increments until 9 pm. If weather conditions still prohibit the start of the ceremony, we will reschedule for 9 am the next morning.

If there is a lightning alert during the ceremony
The announcer will tell the audience to go to their cars or underneath the stands. The graduates will be directed to exit the field and held in the dressing rooms until the lightning alert has passed. Announcements will be made over the PA and by text and email. We will delay for a maximum of 1hours before the ceremony will be rescheduled.

    What is the worst-case scenario?
That we have multiple days of non-stop rain. If we have multiple days of rain, we will work with the National Weather Service to look for a 2hour window during which we can hold the ceremony. We hope our graduations will go off without a hitch, but we have contingency plans to ensure our graduates have a great experience.

Why aren't we still in The Star in Frisco?
There are many logistical challenges for three high school graduations. While it was easy to schedule two graduations, we could not make three graduation dates work. We hope that one day, we can again hold graduation ceremonies at an indoor facility. But, we are glad to be back home at Children's Health Stadium, where so many of our students have great memories of high school.

Don't forget that there is a live stream!
Check out the 2024 graduation page for the live stream link during the ceremony and other important information.

If you have any concerns or questions, please feel free to email the District at communications@prosper-isd.net.

We can't wait to see you at graduation!
