Fund Schools First
“Education is the most powerful weapon you can use to change the world."
~Nelson Mandela
Public schools are the bedrock of our democracy and the engine of our economy. By fully funding education for our 5.5 million students before all else, we safeguard Texas' future, fortify our workforce, and ensure our state remains a beacon of opportunity and innovation for generations to come.

Support districts facing deficit budgets due to unfunded mandates and inflation
Provide full-day Pre-K funding to build a strong educational foundation

SUPPORT: OUR DEDICATED TEACHERS AND STAFF
Texas public school teachers make an average of $7,612 less than the national average of $65,293, ranking Texas at number 27 in the country. The quality of our education system and the long-term viability of our economy are inextricably linked to the effectiveness and diversity of our teachers.
Increase educator compensation to address critical teacher shortages
Increase funding for health benefits for educators
SUPPORT: FULLY FUNDED SAFE SCHOOL ENVIRONMENTS
We strongly advocate for creating safe learning environments by empowering educators and parents to manage student behavior. Our approach balances firm accountability with collaborative intervention, recognizing that parents are crucial partners in shaping positive student conduct.
By involving families in addressing and improving challenging behaviors—including temporary removal when necessary to protect others—we can foster a secure, respectful atmosphere that benefits all students and staff, ultimately enhancing educational outcomes for our entire school community.
Enhance the school safety allotment beyond the current $10 per student.
Fully fund state-mandated school safety measures, including on-campus peace officers.
SUPPORT: INCREASED TRANSPARENCY FOR ALL SCHOOLS
Increase transparency with checks and balances for new and expanding charter schools in high-performing districts.
SUPPORT: REFORM THE STATE ACCOUNTABILITY SYSTEM
Reform the state’s assessment (STAAR) and accountability (A-F) systems to appropriately measure all factors influencing student performance and school ratings.
Allow local school boards to approve locally developed assessments that hold schools accountable for continuous and ongoing student growth with at least three benchmarks throughout the year (beginning, middle, and end).
